Founders Return to Pre-AI B2B Companies

More founders are returning to run their pre-AI B2B companies because it is the last stand, according to SaaStr. The pattern appears at companies large enough to maintain a sustaining base yet not agentic enough to grow. This occurs across portfolios and public markets at firms reaching $50M+ ARR.

UiPath Founder Daniel Dines Reappointed After Four Months

Daniel Dines handed the UiPath CEO role to Rob Enslin on February 1, 2024, and moved to Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Chairman. Enslin resigned effective June 1, 2024, and Dines was re-appointed CEO the same day. ARR stood at $1.508 billion, up 21 percent, while revenue reached $335 million, up 16 percent, with guidance cut for the next quarter and full year. The stock fell about 35 percent to under $12 after touching nearly $27 in February. Dines has been back 27 months as of the September 3, 2026 report. ARR then reached $1.938 billion, up 12 percent. Revenue was $410 million, up 13 percent or 16 percent normalized. Net new ARR was $37 million. Net revenue retention was 109 percent. Non-GAAP operating margin was 22 percent. The company posted its fourth consecutive quarter of GAAP operating profit at $32 million. Customers at $1M+ ARR rose 21 percent to 387.

Workday Founder Aneel Bhusri Returns to 11 Percent Growth Outlook

Aneel Bhusri returned permanently as Workday CEO on February 9, 2026, after Carl Eschenbach served as co-CEO from December 2022 and sole CEO from February 2024. Subscription revenue in Q2 FY27 was $2.471 billion, up 13.9 percent. Management guided fiscal 2028 subscription growth to roughly 11 percent. The stock was down about 15 percent in 2026 before August and more than 40 percent below its 2024 peak.

Intercom Founder Eoghan McCabe Renames Company and Achieves Exit

Eoghan McCabe returned as Intercom CEO at the end of 2022. In May 2026 the company was renamed Fin after its agent product. On June 15, 2026, Salesforce agreed to acquire Fin for about $3.6 billion, with roughly 30,000 customers and $400M+ in recurring revenue, according to SaaStr.

Outcome After Founder Returns

Dines stated on the call that the past two years transformed the platform and strengthened execution at UiPath. The business moved from cutting guidance and posting losses in mid-2024 to four quarters of GAAP profit, margin expansion, 97 percent gross retention, and 21 percent growth in $1M+ customers. Growth remains in double digits after AI impacted the category directly, according to SaaStr.
