OpenAI Claims $1B ARR for ChatGPT Ads After Under-60-Second Campaign Tool
OpenAI announced a redesigned ChatGPT Ads onboarding that creates campaigns from a URL in under one minute and reported reaching $1 billion annualized revenue run rate.
OpenAI Unveils Faster ChatGPT Ad Creation
On Monday OpenAI announced the ability to build a ChatGPT campaign in under a minute. The company stated that its AI can turn an advertiser’s website into a campaign by entering a URL, analyzing the business, products, objectives, and target customers, then suggesting conversation placements, generating creative and copy, and collecting geography, bidding, and billing details. Advertisers can also build campaigns through an agent in the ChatGPT Ads Manager plug-in.
OpenAI said new advertisers receive $500 in matching credits after spending $500. The company described a longer-term vision in which an agent receives a goal and budget and eventually handles much of the campaign itself.
Revenue Run Rate and Daily Growth Figures
OpenAI claimed ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate less than 200 days after its February launch, according to MarTech (https://martech.org/openais-audacious-claim-about-ad-revenue/). The company offered no proof of the figure. It also reported that daily ad revenue increased 25 percent since the beginning of August.
The company has projected ad revenue of $2.5 billion in 2026, $11 billion in 2027, $25 billion in 2028, $53 billion in 2029, and $100 billion in 2030 to investors, according to MarTech (https://martech.org/openais-audacious-claim-about-ad-revenue/). Those forecasts assume OpenAI products reach 2.75 billion weekly users by 2030. OpenAI says ChatGPT already serves more than 1 billion weekly active users.
Market Skepticism on Scale
Research firm eMarketer expects the entire U.S. standalone chatbot advertising market to generate less than $1 billion in 2026 and has forecast that OpenAI will fall far short of its $100 billion target, according to MarTech (https://martech.org/openais-audacious-claim-about-ad-revenue/). Analyst Nate Elliott stated that reaching the target would require enormous user growth, market dominance, aggressive pricing, and heavy ad load.
An Ipsos survey found that 63 percent of consumers said advertising decreases their trust in AI outputs. OpenAI states that ads remain separate from ChatGPT answers and do not influence them.
