Google Expands Preferred Sources Feature to AI Overviews and AI Mode
Google now lets users prioritize selected sites in AI-generated search answers and adds article carousels for developing topics.
Google is expanding its Preferred Sources feature into AI Overviews and AI Mode. The change allows user-selected sites to appear with a preferred badge inside AI-generated answers.
Preferred Sources originally launched to let users prioritize publications in Top Stories. The selections now extend to AI search results across Search.
Users choose eligible websites that publish fresh content through Search personalization settings. Google is also adding article carousels to search results for developing topics, which give more visibility to preferred sources.
According to MarTech, Google states users are twice as likely to click a link carrying a Preferred Source label. The company reports users have favorited more than 345,000 domains and subdomains worldwide.
Publisher Actions for Preferred Sources
Publishers can direct loyal readers to add their site as a preferred source using direct links to the source preference tool. Google recommends adding an “Add as Preferred Source” button on site pages.
