The CMO Council in partnership with MartechTribe introduced the Apex Martech Matrix Innovation Insights Brief on July 1. The framework predicts business value of martech investments based on company size, industry, maturity and strategic priorities. Global martech spend is moving toward $215 billion according to Demand Gen Report.

Data Sources Behind the Matrix

MartechTribe conducted hundreds of benchmarking probes over the past decade. The underlying data warehouse contains 15,000 customer technology solutions, over 1,600 real-world cross-industry stacks and 4,500 documented requirements. These were curated by more than 200 experts across 30 countries.

Definition of Top Performers

The Apex Martech Matrix isolates the top 30% of companies in each industry using revenue per employee ratios drawn from annual reports. Top performers prioritize fit over feature breadth, align capabilities with organizational maturity and remove unnecessary complexity. The matrix benchmarks a company's stack against these top performers in its industry according to Demand Gen Report.

Performance Insights and Failure Points

Top performers show faster speed-to-value, avoid one-size-fits-all stacks and do not overestimate stack maturity. MartechTribe identified four common failure points in underperforming stacks: data fragmentation, integration debt, capability mismatch and attribution blindness. Additional offerings include a State of Industry Report, Full-Stack Scan, Three-Tool Scan and Annual Subscription Bundle.

Shift From Traditional Selection Methods

Vendor rankings, feature comparisons and RFP cycles are being replaced by benchmarking intelligence and real-world deployment patterns. The matrix turns martech spend into measurable value according to Demand Gen Report.
