A SaaStr AI Agent API Report Card that evaluated 152 B2B software APIs found marketing platforms averaging 63.6 out of 100 while the overall average across all categories reached 72.

Report Methodology and Scope

The report graded APIs on six criteria scored 0-10 each for a maximum of 100 points: API design, events and streaming support, authentication, rate limits, SDK quality and documentation, and agent readiness. Scores came from independent evaluations by Claude, GPT, and Gemini models. Marketing APIs scored 63.6, customer success platforms 62.9, sales intelligence tools 65.8, and CRM platforms 68.5. AI and LLM APIs averaged 80.8.

Lowest Scores in Marketing Stack

Out of 57 marketing-relevant APIs, only five reached 80 or higher. HubSpot and Lightfield each scored 80. Salesforce scored 75, Klaviyo scored 75, Customer.io scored 70, Beehiiv scored 70, Braze scored 67, and Iterable scored 66. Marketo scored 50, ActiveCampaign scored 53, Mailchimp scored 57, and Gainsight scored 47. The weakest dimension for marketing platforms was agent readiness at 6.1 out of 10.

Rate Limits and Webhooks Shortfalls

Rate limits averaged 6.6 out of 10 across the full dataset. Sales intelligence tools averaged 5.9 out of 10 on webhooks. Hunter.io scored 7 on webhooks while Apollo scored 4. According to MarTech, these gaps prevent agents from receiving automatic updates and require repeated polling instead.

Higher-Performing Exceptions

HubSpot reached an A- through updated API versioning and dedicated developer APIs for its Breeze AI Agents. Salesforce scored a B+. Infrastructure and developer tools pulled the overall average higher, with Stripe at 97, GitHub at 92, Anthropic at 90, and OpenAI at 90. According to MarTech, only 9 percent of marketing APIs met the 80-point threshold.
