A new Idea Grove survey shows that AI tools surface brands for consumers but rarely drive purchases without further verification. According to Demand Gen Report, only 2% of respondents said they would buy from an unfamiliar brand based solely on an AI recommendation, while 98% take additional steps.

Levels of Skepticism Toward AI Suggestions
Fifteen percent of consumers view AI recommendations as generally the best options available. Forty percent describe themselves as pragmatic skeptics who use AI but do not fully trust it. Twenty-seven percent are actively skeptical and believe AI may favor brands that have gamed the system, while 19% do not trust AI recommendations at all. Forty-eight percent do not realize companies actively try to influence AI outputs.
Most Influential Trust Signals
Customer reviews increase trust for 78% of respondents. Press coverage increases trust for 58%, and 69% say they are more likely to choose a brand that has media coverage over one with none. Forty-two percent of Americans now use ChatGPT for brand research.
