Bay Area Takes 51% of AI Venture Dollars and 53% of B2B Dollars

Carta data for $124 billion in startup funding from July 2025 to June 2026 shows the Bay Area capturing 51.5% of AI capital and 53.2% of B2B capital.

Carta released its Startup Ecosystem Leaderboard covering the $124 billion invested into startups on its platform from July 2025 through June 2026. The Bay Area received 41.3% of that total, or $51.3 billion, for companies headquartered in the metro. New York received 18.0% and Boston received 8.7%.

Overall Capital Shares

The Bay Area captured nearly 2.5 times the capital of the New York ecosystem across all categories. According to SaaStr, the Bay Area share rises when the data is filtered to AI and B2B.

AI and B2B Shares

In AI the Bay Area received 51.5% of capital. In SaaS and B2B the Bay Area received 53.2%. New York received 16.0% in AI and 19.0% in B2B. Boston received 8.3% in AI and 8.4% in B2B. Austin and Los Angeles each received 4.3% in AI.

Combined Top Two Metros

Bay Area plus New York together accounted for 67.5% of AI funding and 72.2% of B2B funding. In fintech the pattern reversed, with New York taking 58.9% and the Bay Area taking 20.8%. According to SaaStr, the data ranks metros by capital invested into startups headquartered in each location.

Remaining Metros

All metros below the top three received low single-digit shares in both AI and B2B. The data covers capital into companies headquartered in each metro rather than investor locations.
